Workers compensation provides protection to workers and their employers in the event of a work related injury or disease. The Workers Compensation system provides a range of benefits including:

Payment for Permanent Injuries:

You may be entitled to a lump sum payment for serious and permanent injuries.

Loss of Wages:

A benefit is paid towards your basic wages until you are able to return to work. For the first 26 weeks of total incapacity, the weekly benefit is paid at award rate or enterprise agreement rate of pay, capped at a maximum weekly rate. The payments generally do not include overtime, shiftwork or penalty rates. After 26 weeks, the payment reduces to a statutory rate.

Wages on Returning to Work:

Where a return to work plan is required for your return to work, your employer pays you for the hours you work and the insurer makes up the difference to your average weekly earnings.

Reasonable medical and other expenses:

These include most medical and hospital treatments, therapies, counselling, medical tests and medication.

Reasonable Rehabilitation Expenses:

This covers all costs associated with your return to work including the fees of the rehabilitation provider and job seeking expenses.

Reasonable Other Expenses:

These include such items as travel, aids and equipment.
